Dutch Stroopwafels
If you have not tried a Dutch Stroopwafel, you have not lived!
A Dutch Stroopwafel,
Pronunciation, is made from two thin layers of baked dough and filled with a caramel syrup. They were first made in the Netherlands and are served either hot off the press as a snack or pre-packaged to be enjoyed at home.
I was first exposed to Stroopwafels about 10 years ago. I was living in England at the time and an associate that I was with at the time was from Amsterdam and his parents had sent him some treats from home. One of these treats was Dutch Stroopwafels, he was very kind and shared some with me.
About two years ago I was searching for some fun international desserts that I could learn to make and offer at my bakery,
The Mighty Baker. I came across Stroopwafels and my mind was taken back 8 years when I tried some and I decided to try them out. I collected about 6 different recipes for the wafel dough and for the traditional caramel filling. I trialed all the recipes and changed and tweaked some of them to improve the end result.
And... here they are in all their beauty and deliciousness!
We sold them at the Provo Farmers Market in 2014 and sold out of them almost every week.
Stroopwafels are great by themselves, in ice cream, or with your preferred hot drink. They are very versatile and can be customized easily. At
The Mighty Baker, we have the traditional Stroopwafel with Caramel Filling and also a version filled with our Cookie Butter. Both versions also can be dipped in White, Milk or Dark Chocolate for extra enjoyment!
In summer of 2015,
The Mighty Baker's Stroopwafels will be available on our Provo based Dessert Food Truck pre-packaged and hot off the press like you would get on the streets of Amsterdam.
The Mighty Baker is a Provo, Utah County Custom Cake and Dessert Catering bakery.
